Passionate for Passionflower

Updated: Nov 14, 2020

TGIF, am I right? It’s Flora Friday and today we are going to talk about passiflora incarnata, or passionflower! The name comes from it’s appearance, which has been compared to Jesus’s Crown of Thorns. The flowers are yellow with many purple details. They are sweet smelling, and when ripe grow orange berries roughly the size of an apple! Growing this plant near your home will calm emotions, attract friends, and fill the home with peace. Placing the flowers on one’s altar will deepen their connection to the divine. For a full night's rest, put dried flowers into your dream pillow or sachet. To attract friendship or love, carry a few petals in an amulet. It can be added to teas, and medically passionflower has been used to lower blood pressure and treat a variety of illnesses ranging from diarrhea and insomnia to epilepsy. Please note: Before ingestion of any plant, always research the cautions. e.g. Passionflower can be considered unsafe for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
